Communication Strategy


Reciprocity is one of the most basic reciprocity principles that one can use to gather donations from individuals. The rule of reciprocity uses influence and persuasion towards an individual. It is influenced that is based upon meeting the needs of individual in exchange of their contribution. By approaching individuals and asking them to support the less fortunate in the society because others would do the same for them, then it is easy to ask for donations using this method. I approached individuals and persuaded them to give back to the society that had blessed them with so many gifts.

As it turns out, there are individual who have surpluses and have no qualms with helping the less fortunate in the society. Though difficult to exercise, this method of soliciting for donation is successful. There are different people with different needs. Majority of the citizens are empathetic, hence their desire to help out. Some stated that they would be glad if they were facing in the same circumstances, but had guidance and help from another person.  It is only prudent that all individuals in the society help out those who cannot afford a certain standard of living. The success rate of this strategy was 50% the number of those who gave donation based on this strategy equals the number of those who did not. Some of those who failed to donate stated that they felt as if they were being cornered into donation. They stated that if they made a donation, it would not be voluntary, but based on the fact that they felt tricked into donation. Others states that they would not be in such a position as to require donations from others.

Commitment and Consistency

People have a general tendency to be consistence in their behavior. Others would like to be committed to their society in increasing the livelihood of the citizens. Contrary to the reciprocity principle, the principle of consistency and commitment does not require one to give a donation in expectation of something else. This is a principle that requires one to donate simply because they are concerned for the welfare of others in the society, and not because there is anything they expect from their generosity.

In a dynamic society, on that is marred by vicissitude, individuals have to be consistent, and expect consistency from others. There is the need for an individual to be committed to their service to society. One needs to understand that there are those individuals in the society who are not as gifted as they are. This is the reason some individuals re committed to helping the less fortunate. Volunteers and social workers are some of the people in society who are keen on commitment to increasing the welfare of all members in the society.

As a committed member in the society, I do a lot of volunteer work during my free time and holiday. I have interacted with different people, some of those individuals I asked for donations towards the food drive. They were more than ready to help me out because they understand my commitment and consistency with helping the less fortunate in society. This theory works best if one has the desire to help others in society and if they have an empathetic heart. This strategy has a high success rate because individuals in this society are giving people, and they are ready to come to the rescue of all members in the society.

Social Proof

It is a socially acceptable norm that, when making any decision, individuals will look to other people similar to themselves. This is noticeable and evident in situations of ambiguity and uncertainty. People always have the tendency to justify their actions based on the activities of those people to whom they perceive similarity. Giving back to the society is no different. People will give back if they notice that other people are giving back. This theory works when individuals notice that others are giving their donations.

In collecting the donations, I informed all individuals I came across that it was an activity in which a majority of people had participated. When individuals notice that others have donated to a cause dedicated towards increasing the welfare of the citizenry, they were more than willing to chip in any way that they could manage. Soliciting of donations using this theory was relatively easy and efficient. This is because individuals are ready to donate their money and food securities for a good cause. In this case, when a majority of people in the society engage in the exercise, the number of donations provided is relatively high.


People are inclined to help out those people whom they like. There are different aspects that influence the liking aspect of individuals. People will only offer help out those individuals who are physically attractive and shower them with complements. Having interacted with a majority of the individuals in this town, I have a loving personality and strike many people as warm and caring. Having had a connection with different people, it was time to approach them for donation for the volunteer cause that was donation.

Also, people are focused on cooperating with the aim of achieving a common goal. In this case, individuals in the society are focused on coming together and ensuring that there is provision of food for those who are not lucky enough to afford it. It is also prudent to contribute to increasing the welfare of individuals in the society. It is evident that there are individuals in the society who are willing to contribute to the comfort and welfare of others. These contributions are only made if the person giving out is ready to offer their help and assistance. This strategy is fairly successful because individuals might run out of people in the society whom they like. Giving based on emotion rather than the desire to see a better society might not be the best influential strategy.
