PALS have numerous benefits which include given students increased opportunities to read and practice their basic skills in math. They also assist students by motivating them to perform better in math and reading while at the same time they assist in the involvement of all students in tasks that they can all involve themselves and perform successfully thus boosting their morale. PALS give children with disabilities a chance to spend more of their time in least restrictive environment thus increasing their access to the available general curriculum hence boosting their self-esteem. PALS give children with reading difficulties a chance to take up integral roles in important activities. They also expand instructional resources in the classroom that assist students to perform better. PALS are also cost effective while at the same time they engage the students in a simple and way that is easily implemented.

            Reading is paramount in the intellectual development of all people and it is usually learned and perfected in childhood. Proper learning of the simplest ways to master reading skills is important in the development of a child. K-PALS are important in assisting a child to know and learn the basic vowels and their sounds. This alone is not enough and that is where the first grade PALS reading skills come in. These are meant to polish all that was learnt in Kindergarten thus allowing for the child to e able to make meaningful sentences and pronounce words in the proper manner.

            K-PALS are basically intended to be implemented to children through means of pairing them together and allowing the pairs to learn from each other. It is therefore very unfair to have one of the children alone when it comes to classes of this nature since a partner is imminent. Ms. Sweeney should ensure that she remains calm and does not give the child who is alone the chance to feel sorry for them but in the contrary, she should go on ahead and do all she can to calm him down. Ms. Sweeney can then step in the place for the missing child and practically involve herself in the daily activities that all the other children participate in while pairing with the child that is alone.

            Mrs. Miselem on the other hand does not have to worry a lot because implementing PALS for the first time is not difficult at all. All she needs are very basic and minimal materials that are easily available and very inexpensive. First of all she will need to have the PALS teachers’ manual that comes free with the entire PALS program. It is easily understood and is put out in Basic English for ease of understanding. A projector and blank transparencies are essential and critical materials in the implementation of PALS. These two materials plus a transparency pen is also needed. The students in turn will have a number of pocket folders which they will use to hold the PALS materials in. The number of students in the class is then taken and equally divided into pairs. For each pair, say, there are twenty students in the class; there would be ten pairs of students whereby each pair of students will be offered one pocket folder to share with their partner. The pace by which the tests are administered should be well paced in the duration of the lesson. Numerous copies of the student lessons are recommended to be made in the course of teaching PALS math, K-PALS reading and First Grade PALS reading to be availed to the studying students.

            Student participation is basically pegged on numerous pillars. The classroom environment should be good and fit for the participation of all the children. The classroom should be the ideal place to learn basic math and language skills which then become the cornerstones to the overall leaning pillars to a child’s future educational endeavors. A healthy team environment is cultivated by the teacher who should ensure that they give all the children in the class equal and undivided attention and also give the children a chance to answer and ask questions. Only when the children are free and not intimidated will they engage in even the slightest of classwork participation considering that PALS relies heavily on pairing and working in pairs.
