Provider Patient Relationship

A health care provider can be described as an individual who offers promotional, preventive and curative services to individuals or communities. There are different types of health care providers for instance a surgical practitioner, geriatric practitioner and mental health practitioner. There should always be a good relationship between the health care provider and the patient. This paper analyses factors to consider before employing a health care provider and how he or she influences the spiritual needs of a child suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Post Traumatic Disorder can be described as a disorder that mainly affects individuals that have gone through hardship or dangerous events. Any person can be affected by PTSD as long as they have been through tough moments. These individuals mostly experience nightmares as well as frightening thoughts.  Children tend to have extreme reactions during this disorder. They show symptoms that are quite different from those of the adults. An example of this is wetting the bed, and becoming clinging to their care givers (James & Langan, 2005).

Children suffering from PSTD need much care and love. Therefore, parents should ensure that they employ health care providers that can be able to show love to these children. The health care provider should have understanding and be very patient with a child suffering from PSTD. Apart from being patient the care provider should be knowledgeable about the disorder so that he or she can make available the appropriate medication. To add on that the health care provider should be able to offer words of encouragement to a child suffering from PSTD (Webb, 2009).

There are different interventions that can be used to meet the spiritual needs of a child suffering from PSTD. The first Intervention is medical counseling. This intervention mainly deals with individual’s psychological problems like fear and anxiety. The health care maintained through this intervention should make the patient aware that his or her condition is normal and that it can be treated or controlled.  Another intervention is suicide intervention. This intervention is mainly geared towards helping children reduce distress (Webb, 2009).

Conclusion

It is very important that there exists a healthy relationship between the health care provider and the patient. This helps in speeding up the healing process.  Health care providers of children suffering from PSTD should be patient and have understanding and knowledge about PSTD. In order to control PSTD, health care providers can use two major interventions: medical counseling and suicide intervention.
